LIFEPAK® 12 & 15 monitor/defibrillator + Panasonic Toughbook® CF-19’s

On the CF-19:

  1. Log on to the machine with Administrative privileges.

  2. Click Start->Control Panel and double click on Add/Remove Programs.

  3. Select Bluetooth® stack for Windows® by Toshiba® and click Remove.

  4. Click Yes to all prompts during the uninstall process.

  5. Check to ensure the following are done:

    1. If the machine has an AT&T Air Card, remove it now (it will be replaced later).

    2. Connect the machine to the internet via an Ethernet cable.

    3. Set the Wireless switch to On (it’s on the left side of the CF-19, closest to the user).

    4. If the machine has a wireless manager in the system tray (near the time), Right Click on it and ensure that Bluetooth is turned on.

  6. Reboot the machine (click Start->Shutdown then select Restart from the drop down list and click OK.

  7. Once the machine has rebooted, log in with Administrative privileges.

  8. You should be prompted to Add New Hardware; if not, recheck the items listed under step 5 then click Start->Control Panel->Add New Hardware.

  9. The Add Hardware Wizard will ask if you wish to search the Internet for the drivers, click one of the two Yes options (I usually use the middle one), then click Next.

  10. If everything is working correctly, the system should add a device called UGNZA - part of which is Bluetooth Drivers.

    1. Note: if on this step the system never looks for UGNZA and instead looks for USB Device in vain, you may have a physically defective USB port on the machine which can be disabled via Device Manager (click Start->Control Panel-> System-> Hardware tab, then click Device Manager).

  11. Click Start->Control Panel then double-click on Bluetooth.

  12. Click on the Options tab and check the Turn Discovery On (in Vista, the option is Allow Bluetooth devices to find this computer) checkbox and the Show Icon in Taskbar checkbox (see Fig 1).

  1. Click on the COM Ports tab then click the Add button until COM11 is listed. Click OK to close the dialog.

  2. Install LIFEPAK SDK version 9 using the appropriate installer batch file from our website (requires registration). See the ReadMe.txt file for details.

  3. Click Start->All Programs-> Physio-Control-> Administrative Tools-> System Configuration (see Fig 2).

  1. Select the Device Data Reception Tab and click the Modify Button.

  2. Select COM11, click the >> button, and click OK. Click OK again to close the dialog.

  3. Click Start->All Programs-> Physio-Control->LIFENET Device Communications (see Fig 3).

  1. Click Control->LIFENET Communications then select Disable.

  2. Click Control->LIFENET Communications then select Enable, and click the X in the upper right hand corner of the window to close the dialog. You may be warned that the program will run in the back ground; click OK to this message.

  3. You may now put any AT&T Air Cards back into the system.

On the LIFEPAK 12 or 15 monitor/defibrillator:

Bluetooth Pairing LIFEPAK 12 monitor:

  1. Hold down Option and Event and press the On button.

  2. You will be prompted for a PIN number, enter your PIN or 0000 if you don’t know your PIN.

  3. Go to Transmission, Data, and Setup Site.

  4. Select an existing site or add a new one and ensure the following options are set:

    1. Output Port: Direct Connect

    2. Wireless: On

  5. Go to Previous Page and select the default report type (typically ALL).

  6. Go to Wireless, and select Device Setup, note the PIN #.

  7. Select your CF-19 by computer name, and select Add.

  8. On the CF-19 you will be prompted to enter the PIN # (you may have to double click on the Bluetooth icon in the system tray). After entering the PIN, click OK on the CF-19 and direct your attention back to the LIFEPAK 12 or 15 monitor/defibrillator.

  9. You will now be listed as a trusted device. Turn the LIFEPAK 12 or 15 monitor/defibrillator off, then back on again.

  10. Click on Options, select Archives, Yes, and select Send Data.

  11. Select the report you want to transmit.

  12. Make sure the Site selected is set to the site name you created in step 4 and click Send.

  13. A transmission record will be printed with the results of the transmission.

Bluetooth Pairing LIFEPAK 15 monitor:

  1. With the device powered off, hold down OPTIONS and EVENT and press ON—continue to press only OPTIONS and EVENT until the Setup / Enter Setup Mode Passcode menu appears.

  2. Use the SPEED DIAL to enter the passcode. The factory default is 0000.

  3. Rotate the SPEED DIAL to highlight the TRANSMISSION menu item. Press the SPEED DIAL to select the item.

  4. Choose SITES and select an unused site.

  5. Enter a recognizable friendly name for the user (e.g. – Documed BT).

  6. Set the Output Port setting to Bluetooth Wireless. NOTE – you’ll need to configure an additional site if you want to use a data transmission cable for with device. This second site’s Output Port would need to be set to Direct Connect. It is not advisable to use the Both option as the device will not transmit using the direct connection when a wireless connection is available. This could lead to confusion for the end users.

  7. Go to the previous screen. Turn the device off then turn it back on.


To pair the LIFEPAK 15 monitor with a PC or laptop:


  1. On the HOME SCREEN, rotate the SPEED DIAL to outline the Bluetooth icon .

  1. Press the SPEED DIAL. The Bluetooth Setup menu appears.

  2. Set SEARCH FILTER to OFF.

  3. Set the Bluetooth passcode.

  4. Ensure that WIRELESS is set to ON.

  5. On the LIFEPAK 15 monitor, use the SPEED DIAL to select the Bluetooth icon and access the Bluetooth Setup menu.

 

  1. Select CONNECT and then select FIND DEVICES. This will disconnect any existing connections.

  2. When the desired device appears that has the friendly name configured above, press the SPEED DIAL to select STOP and end the search. You return to the Bluetooth Setup menu.

  3. Use the SPEED DIAL to scroll through the list and select the desired device.

  4. Enter the passcode, if requested, and then accept the connection.


After you establish a Bluetooth connection, you are ready to transmit patient data.

On the CF-19:

  1. Install Emergency-Pro v4.x and configure it to connect to your server.

  2. Open Reporter, create a new EMS Report, go to the right-most tab Attachments, and click on Physio Attachment.

    1. If Physio Attachment is not listed, you may need to enable it in Customization under Global Settings, Defibrillators.

  3. You may need to adjust the date rate on the dialog and click Search.

  4. Find your record and select OK.

  5. You will then be presented with a list of vital signs. Uncheck any erroneous values and click OK.
